New Feature: Metadata

Our website algorithim is unique… it prioritizes a shoppers location in relation to vendors. It gives vendors an edge when selling compared to other platforms where you ability to be seen is based on high sales volumes, high prices or reviews. We want to help people shop where they live and a way we can do that is by showing shoppers the vendors that live around them.

It’s cool for new vendors that join too. It means they aren’t lost in a sea of saturation and will be shown at the top of the search function if they are the closest vendor to the shopper.

But how do we ensure we are keeping our search function working well… if we base everything just from location and someone shops “tshirts” but we show them “spoons” they aren’t going to love using the platform.

Originally we included product descriptions as well as categories to help refine the search.

Some feedback that we were hearing was that people have to have excessively long descriptions in order to show up in all the different ways someone might look for them. For example searching “shirt” instead of “t-shirt” or “monster” instead of “monsters”.

These are the things that when you’re not in tech that you just don’t think of.

So, we’ve made another improvement! We have now built in embedded metadata so that you as a vendor can add more keywords to your products and shop without adding too much to read for the shopper.

In today's digital age, where online visibility is crucial for business success, embedded metadata plays a pivotal role in enhancing discoverability and optimizing content for search engines. Embedded metadata, also known as meta tags, are snippets of information embedded within the code of a web page or digital file. These tags provide valuable context about the content, including keywords, descriptions, and other relevant information. By incorporating metadata into online assets, our vendors can improve their search engine rankings, attract more organic traffic, and ultimately increase their online presence. Additionally, embedded metadata helps users quickly understand the relevance and context of the content they encounter online, leading to a more seamless and satisfying browsing experience. In essence, embedded metadata serves as the invisible but essential backbone of digital content, facilitating its discoverability and ensuring it reaches the right audience at the right time.

When we say we an awesome alternative to having your own website, this is another reason why!

So, we will just be over here, listening to our current vendors. Trying our best to understand what else we can keep doing to better serve you!
